![]() ![]() ![]() While there still isn’t a full-service, dedicated art house theater in San Antonio, the Bijou Collection films are being rolled out at the Embassy and Palladium theaters, with the goal of spreading them around to other locations in the local chain’s fleet. Nevertheless, Villanueva recognizes that part of the whole art house experience is bringing people together. To facilitate that, Santikos has launched a series of channels on the social media app Discord, including a channel devoted to the Bijou series, as well as places to chat about other recent films and new releases. There’s even a channel specifically for spoiler-laden discussion. “I think that’s a big part of the art house community, is not just seeing the movie and moving on, but talking about it afterwards and discussing… how made you feel, and maybe how you felt that first night, and then how you felt about it maybe a few weeks later.” “The Bijou Series really needed a home,” Villanueva explained. Villanueva said Santikos is also planning to bring in special guests, such as film professors from local universities, to facilitate discussions following select screenings at the theaters. Guests who are also part of the Santikos Movie Lovers rewards program can earn extra points on their accounts for checking off Bijou Collection titles within a given month. The Bijou Collection opens this Friday with a San Antonio exclusive run of the A24 Studios film “ Funny Pages,” a darkly comedic coming-of-age story about an aspiring cartoonist that earned a three-minute ovation at its Cannes Film Festival premiere last May. Villanueva says he’s personally looking forward to it. “I’m a creative person, and I love movies about art, and creating art, and how that affects your life process and your life choices.” Other titles opening in the Bijou Collection this month and next include “Three Thousand Years of Longing,” starring Tilda Swinton, “Moonage Daydream,” a documentary about David Bowie, the mystery “See How They Run,” and the 2022 Sundance Film Festival favorite, “God’s Country.”Īn online presence for the Bijou Collection is available on the Santikos website.Never coming back again. I have been to just about every Santikos location in the past and never had nearly as bad the experience as I did at Bijou. ![]() One couple next to us brought an outside beverage then a woman who seemed to be a manager passed by and literaly snatched their unfinished drink. In a loud voice she told them they can make their way out if they have any other outside food. I understand why bringing outside food would be a problem but there are different ways to explain this to guest and stealing their drinks and yelling made everyone around them feel uncomfortable. As we walked out that same lady had all her staff seated in front of her and she was lecturing on how to I repeat" made customers want more food". If they want to teach their employees sales tactics they can do so after everyone left in private so guest do not feel just like $$. Restrooms were also not very well maintained and seats had popcorn remains. I give this theatre a 1 star level just because theres no less rating than that, this was my first experience at this place, i had a situation, i bought my tickets online where they charged me even tho there was an error and the screen said to try again later cause something went wrong, and when i went to the actual building to talk and explained what happened the lady manager wasnt helpful at all, she didnt even try to log in on the system or anything, the other 2 guy managers were helpful but she seemed to be a store manager or something for the way she was dressed, unfortunately i dont know her name but was the only girl manager on the floor both times, when I left i said thank you and never looked at me or answer back, Im really disappointed cause this is the person is supposed to help and she made me left the place upset, NEVER GOING BACK THERE! This location has a lot to learn from other locations if they dont want to go broke given the fact that the theater was dead on a friday night! I love Santikos and I loved Wonderland Mall. Honestly, I think it would be the perfect place to do the "Sneak" concept. ![]()
